New boathouse

 

The new boathouse was completed in 2022 as a collective fundraising effort by the club. The boat bays in the new boathouse hold the majority of the club’s shared boats and blades that are used during training sessions on the canal.

 

Our new boathouse features a double boat bay designed to accommodate our canal fleet, including singles (1x), doubles/pairs (2x/2-), and quads/fours (4x+/4+). It also provides secure storage for all blades. Additionally, a dedicated bike rack is available for our coaching team.

 

The erg room is home to over 20 erg machines which are used by the club during land training sessions throughout the week. There are also stationary bikes and workout mats available for club member use. When not being used for training, the erg room serves as a gathering space for the club. Notably, the club ceilidh and annual dinner are held in this space! Awards and honours earned by the club throughout the years are also displayed on the erg room walls.

 

The kitchen space within the boathouse is available for club members to use, whether to prepare a cup of tea, refill a water bottle, or make a meal.

 

The men’s and women’s changing rooms are situated within the new boathouse, outfitted with both toilets and shower cubicles for use by club members.

Along with the specific men’s and women’s changing rooms, an accessible toilet is available for club members should they prefer it. To the left of the accessible toilet, there is a set of lockers where club members can store personal items or valuables.

 

Old boathouse

 

Built originally in 1986, the old boathouse houses most of the private boats and blades. It’s also where the majority of big repairs and upgrades are carried out.

Bike Rack

 

Within the boat club compound, there is ample bike storage for members of the club. The location of the bike racks within the compound ensures bikes are safe behind the compound’s fencing.

 

Strathclyde Park

 

As our home canal is too narrow for larger boats, we train our 8+, 4x-, and 4- at Strathclyde Park near Glasgow. These boats, along with some of our blades, are stored on-site. Training at the park not only allows us to train larger crews but also ensures high mileage and race-specific preparation, as it is a fully equipped regatta course used for major competitions in Scotland.
